What is Elkton Area United Services?
Their Work: Elkton Area United Services (EAUS) is a comprehensive social service agency serving Eastern Rockingham County since 1972. EAUS is an organization that truly serves as the backbone of support for residents of the Elkton community. Through their many programs, EAUS is always growing and adapting to meet the needs of their community. More specifically, EAUS's programs include: housing assistance, utility support, a food bank, GED classes, school supplies, book drives, transportation assistance, stranded travelers aid, senior citizen activities, and a holiday cheer program. The organization is funded primarily through the support of community donations. EAUS also relies on their proceeds from the thrift store and a United Way of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County Community Impact Grant.

Why we chose Elkton Area United Services
We chose Elkton Area United Services because as students of James Madison University, we had never even been to Elkton before. Both of us had recently learned about how many of the people who had lived in the Shenandoah National Park were pushed from their homes into the town of Elkton. We wanted to understand how the people of that community lived and supported themselves. After some reflection, we realized that EAUS is the only sustainable source of support for many of the people in Elkton.
We saw how much EAUS does for the people of the community, and we understood the importance of helping with their cause. After understanding their mission, we both felt pulled to learn about an organization that completely impacts a small corner of the world.
